You guys. YOU. GUYS. Lucy is a year old!!! Can you believe it?!?! I seriously cannot even comprehend that my little tiny puppy baby is one year old! It's so crazy to me! This past year has flown by. She has grown so much, and in some ways, it feels like we just brought her home, but in other ways, I can't imagine a time in our lives when we didn't have her here with us. She has changed so much in the past year!

I've changed in the past year too. I mean, I have had pets before, you know, random dogs and cats that had somehow found their way into my life, who I cleaned up after and stepped over. But now, I am a REAL doggy mom. She is my baby, and I have become a REAL pet owner this time around. I find myself worrying about her just like one of the kids. I spent countless hours teaching her to use the bathroom outside, and I have researched just about anything you can think of, from the best pet beds, to hip problems in German Shepherds, to "I think my dog hates me". (Not even kidding guys.)

When it comes to my babies (furry or not), wellness is the most important thing. That's why we are so excited to be feeding Lucy  Wellness® Complete Health™ dog food for the next three months. I'm so excited to really be able to focus on her health needs, and in my opinion, that starts with better nutrition. I feel like now that we are out of that "let's survive until tomorrow" puppy stage, that now we can really get down to making sure that she is the healthiest doggy that she can be!

It was so much fun to check out all the great Wellness products that PetSmart has to choose from! According to Wellness, there are five important signs of wellness to pay attention to when it comes to your pet. Those signs are:

Skin + Coat

Digestive Health

Eyes, Teeth + Gums

Energy

Immunity

When you have a young dog like Lucy, I think it's really important to pay close attention to the five signs of wellness, because we are really setting the stage for the rest of her life, and starting her on a good path to keep her strong and healthy for as long as possible. That's why I love feeding her Wellness Complete dog food. Wellness Complete features high quality ingredients that are a great source of protein, to provide all dogs with better nutrition. Here's what Wellness Complete does to provide the five signs of wellness to all of their furry customers!

Skin & Coat: Essential vitamins and minerals as well as guaranteed levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, support your dog’s skin, coat and health.
Energy: A balanced blend of high-quality proteins, grain-free carbohydrates and select fats provide the energy your dog needs to thrive.
Digestive Health: A combination of healthy fiber, chicory root extract and probiotics help support healthy digestion.
Eyes, Teeth & Gums: Guaranteed levels of Vitamin A help support healthy eyes while calcium and phosphorous help support healthy teeth and gums.
Immunity: Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables and nutritional supplements such as Vitamin E help support a healthy immune system.

When it comes to skin and coat, I feel like this is an especially important area for a German Shepherd. She is really prone to shedding and dry skin, so having a food with a good supply of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids is especially important.Digestive Health is also really important when it comes to wellness in your pet. While Lucy is still a very young dog, that doesn't meant that I am not concerned about her digestive health. I feel really lucky that we haven't had any digestive issues so far with her, even though she has (and continues to!) eat anything and everything in sight! (Most recently, her attention has turned to any and all remote controls... more on that later!) Healthy eyes, teeth and gums? Come on, those are some of the most important things when it comes to animals, so I'm glad that Wellness takes this into consideration. As far as energy goes, we have a definite high energy pup on our hands! Keeping her energy levels high is a very important thing to me. Finally, when it comes to immunity, I don't think there is really anything more important for your pet. They have to have a healthy immune system so that they can combat whatever life throws at them!
