Time To Prepare For Your Autumn Baby

If you’re expecting an autumn baby, you are probably already counting down the weeks before the delivery date! However,
be warned that only 5% of women give birth on their due date. Typically, to calculate your due date, your doctor refers to the
first day of your last period and adds 40 weeks – or 280 days. Which woman has a perfectly clockwork-like schedule period
that falls every 28 days? Not one. So, your due date may be off. If your cycles are shorter than 28 days, you’re likely to give
birth earlier. However, if your cycles are longer, you will give birth after the due date.
Nevertheless, while counting down the days until your due date may only be an estimation of when you’re due, it will only
change the time by a few days or weeks. Your autumn baby is still on the way, and therefore, you have a lot to do to prepare!

Discuss the delivery with the midwife
By that point, you already have found a midwife you can trust. As an expectant mother, it’s a good idea to plan bi-weekly
checks as you approach the due date – start a couple of weeks ahead in case your baby is premature. Why so? Because,
more often than not, a foetus ends up turning into the womb during the last weeks of pregnancy. The position of the fetus
will determine the delivery method.

Share your baby registry
If you haven’t already, now’s the time to throw a baby shower and share your registry. Indeed, you can use the baby shower
as an excuse to gather most of the essential baby kits you need. First of all, make sure a baby monitor makes it to the top of
the list. A video monitor is very helpful for new parents as it lets you check on your baby without getting to their room – and
risking waking them. Do yourself a favour and add a Morrck blanket on the list; it’s a fantastic blanket that is safe to use in
the car seat and keeps your baby warm for winter travels!

Get your hospital bag ready
Nobody knows when you will give birth. The human body is full of surprises, and your doctor will have a hard time predicting
an accurate due date. Therefore, it’s a good idea to keep your hospital bag packed in the weeks before the delivery date.
The last thing you want is to have to rush to the nearest hospital and forget all of the stuff you need. Packing early by your
36th week is a no-brainer.

Prepare the announcement
Is it too early to start thinking about your announcement picture? Of course not! If you want to wow your relatives and friends
, now’s the best time to get creative. You can prepare your favourite design, so that all there is left to do is to add the photo
of your baby and their name to the card.

Embrace the last month(s) of your pregnancy before meeting your little bundle of joy. There is still plenty of time to prepare
for their arrival; so make sure you are ready!

The Key To Having a Successful Road Trip With The Kids

Image by Ronald Plett from Pixabay

You're going to face many parenting challenges in your lifetime and traveling a long distance in the car
with the kids is one of them...okay one of the less serious ones, but still. Being stuck in a confined
space with your kids for a long time can be stressful. However, with a little bit of planning and
preparation, a long journey can be a lot of fun as much a part of the holiday like every other bit.

What To Pack
The first thing to do when packing is to make a list of all the things you are going to need. For a long
journey, it's a good idea to pack a small bag with clothes in for the next day, some pajamas and
toothbrush - basically, an overnight bag which will be easier for when you arrive at your destination
and then you can take your time the next day unpacking and sorting all your things out. Make sure
you have a pillow and a blanket in the car for the kids to keep them warm, and for if they want to fall
asleep.

What To Do In The Car?
Snacking in the car keeps everyone happy; it gives you all something to do and also keeps the kids
quiet. Get a mix of healthy snacks, some sweet and some savory, as too much sugar on a long car
journey could get the kids a bit too giddy.

Make sure you have a good selection of music as this will also stop everyone getting bored. Get your
kids to make some playlists before you go so that they get what they want and there's something for
everyone. Portable DVD players or iPads are useful for long car journeys too; so if you get some
comfy headphones too then everyone's a winner - you can listen to what you want to, and the kids
will be entertained with whatever they want.

Games for everyone to play are good to pass the time too. Eye Spy, Twenty Questions and I'm Going
On A Picnic are all games which can be played with no equipment, just you and your imagination.
There are also plenty of travel games you can buy, and if you ask your children to pack their
backpacks with their own activities in then, this gives them less reason to complain that there's
nothing to do. Be prepared to get stuck in traffic, so make sure you have more than enough games
and ideas to cover all eventualities.

Schedule Stops
Plan for stops en route and make sure you have time for them. Check out your route beforehand and
see if there's anywhere, that would be fun to stop off at on the way. Aside from toilet stops or food
breaks, there could be an attraction on the way which would get the holiday off to a good start or
even just a park to play in where everyone can stretch their legs.

If you're traveling for a long period, then it might be a good idea to go overnight and have a good rest
in between. It will be less stressful to know you have somewhere nice to stay and get a good sleep.
When you arrive you'll be refreshed and ready to enjoy the holiday, plus it's something to look forward
to on the way.
