Safe Email Accounts For Kids!!

The thing about Tater is.. he has no idea that he is six. Seriously.

He thinks he is like sixteen. Staying up all hours of the night, sleeping late, throwing clothes everywhere. Eating everything in the house, playing on his iPod and 3DS ALL THE TIME. Seriously, the kid thinks he is grown. So, for the last six months, when he has asked me for his own email account, I wasn't really surprised. But the answer has always been NO WAY! I just didn't feel like it was safe for someone his age to have that kind of responsibility. I didn't think it was a good idea.

Until now, that is.

We recently got the chance to try out Kidsemail.org, and I have changed my mind about letting Tater have his own email account!

Kidsemail.org allows me to have complete control over what is going on in Tater's email account. I can see every email that comes in and every email that goes out. He is still able to keep in touch with his friends, his grandma that lives in Texas, even his daddy and me! I really didn't think there was such a  thing as a safe kids email account!

I am actually able to see the emails before they go to his account. And I can set up whether or not he can receive emails with links or images. I love the settings, I feel like kidsemail.org has really made it safe for Tater to be able to learn about computers, the internet, email and technology. I really have wanted to be able to teach him this stuff for a long time, but I was always afraid of what else he would "learn" in the process.

From the parent login screen, you can manage all the aspects of your child's account. Here is what you can do:

Parent Login features:

  • Manage each Individual Child (I only have one old enough for this, but it will be handy when they are both old enough)
  • Manage Contacts
  • Safety Settings
  • Modify Look and Feel
  • Ground Child (love this feature)
  • Time Restrictions
  • Block Senders
  • Activity Logs (Love that I can see everything he has been doing!)
  • Mail Queue

The kid's login is super cute and simple! I like that it is so easy to use for someone as young as my guy!

After you log in, it is super easy to use. Tater's favorite part is definitely the customizable backgrounds!!

Here are a few of the choices:

He chose the iPod (of course!) and he thinks it is just the coolest thing ever! I am also curious to explore their teen section, although I definitely do not need that yet! I think it could be a good idea for my
sister, who has a twelve year old daughter, who is heading into that "sneaky tween" stage LOL!
Tater is really enjoying having his own email. It makes him feel like a big kid and I like knowing that he is safe! He has really gotten the hang of it super fast, and has been sending me funny messages (Like "Hi Mom, Poop! I love you!) ALL THE TIME!

So far, we have been really impressed with Kidsemail.org. We are going to be using them for a six month trial, and I am excited to see how things turn out. I really think that I will see an improvement in Tater's typing, computer and spelling skills as we go along.

So keep watching the blog, and I will be keeping updates on how our progress with Tater's new email account is going!

If you want to give Kidsemail.org a try, you can sign up for a free trial here! You don't need a credit card to sign up, so give it a try!

I would like to thank the folks at kidsemail.org for letting me try their services! Although this is a sponsored post, I would gladly sing their praises even if it weren't! All opinions in this post are 105% my own :)

  1. I really have a problem having my kids using our borwser to check mail, I would prefer an e-mail client that he uses specifically for that purpose. So far he's been using gmail but I may adopt this on the condition that it can be used in a client. Magic Desktop has one that he uses, if it can use kidsemail, I'll gladly register an account for him.
