In our family, keeping heart healthy is very important. Heart Disease runs in our family, and back in November, I was hospitalized with blood pressure that was 221/118. I was only 27 then. I started on blood pressure medications immediately, and since then, have been trying to control my blood pressure by diet, exercise, drinking plenty of water, and taking any and all steps available to get my health under control. I remember my dad having at least 4 heart attacks, 2 strokes, and multiple bypass surgeries when I was a kid. He passed away when I was 18. He wasn't even 60 years old. I am determined to break that cycle with my health, and the health of my kids as well. I know that I am working against all odds, since my genetics are so messed up, but hopefully we will be able to beat heart disease and live long, healthy lives.
One of the best (and most fun) ways to tackle heart disease is by eating right and coming up with awesome new recipes to try. With one of my kids underweight and one of them overweight, this is often a chore, to find foods they will both eat, but we are trying! Take a look at some of our very favorites!
